Let’s Get Technical…

Let’s Get Technical…
May 26, 2021 John Jeppesen
We know building industry technologies and materials changes are moving lightning fast. New developments change on a weekly, sometimes daily basis. So this story kicks off a series of technical pieces that will give you the latest updates on the things we are keeping our eyes on.
- Energy Star is at the top of the list. We developed a checklist to ensure a building meets or exceeds IECC 2009 standards. We also evaluate and rate High-Performance Fenestration and Insulation standards and a full review of the HVAC Design document.

- The next blog will look at the High-Performance Envelope. That will include Grade 1 insulation, if the air barriers are fully aligned, reducing thermal bridging, advanced framing, and air sealing. All are included in the High-Performance checklist. – There is a lot of information to cover so it may be split into two posts.

- Then we move to Indoor Air Quality. We will talk about local mechanical exhaust requirements, mechanical ventilation requirements, high MERV filters, duct, and whole-home airtightness. We have covered some of this in previous blogs and will include parts of them as a review.
There’s a natural progression to Effective Mechanical Systems. We will look at quality duct installation requirements, pressure balancing, duct leakage thresholds, it will refer to the recent blog post on Load and the HVAC Grading, and HVAC Design Report and Sizing verification. We will again tap into Rick Blair’s expertise in this content.

- The last piece of the puzzle will be putting all the pieces together and show how the Performance Point team can help you construct energy efficient buildings that your customers will value and appreciate your attention to these important details.
